Gleaning and Delivering to Children’s Relief Nursery

Beth delivered the first 8 boxes to CRN today, I didn’t get a picture of the inside goods…but the boxes had kale, chard, radishes, rosemary, oregano, chives, sugar snap peas, and a few strawberries… so much fun collecting and filling the boxes! I think the families we are helping out are going to be stoked! Gleaning days are still tentatively set for Wednesday Mornings, and are so much fun to participate in!

Veggie Starts from Farmer Pete! Friday May 17, 2012

If you haven’t already got any tomato, pepper or eggplant plants in your gardens, this is your chance to get some HUGE, healthy, compost-tea-fed heirloom varieties! And this weekend is a perfect time to get them planted before the rain arrives next week.

Farmer Pete (Springtail Farms CSA) and Monica will be at the SJ Community Garden this Friday (May 17th) from 10am to 11am, and the plants will remain there the rest of the day for honor-system purchases. (Payment should be left in the Springtail Gardens/Farmer Pete box on the Swap N Play kitchen wall: cash, or check to Pete Munyon).

Garden Work Parties 2012

This year we will have our garden work parties the first Saturday of each month, beginning in March and running through September. The first work day will be:

Saturday, March 3

9 – 12 noon

Bring gloves, water, snack for yourself. We have tools, but if you want to bring a shovel, that would be great.

All are welcome!!! Tell your friends! We will be moving dirt from a big pile into spots for mounded beds in preparation for planting.

Children’s Relief Nursery and SJCG2 partner together

Our garden has formed a relationship with Children’s Relief Nursery http://crn4kids.org/ to provide free organic produce boxes weekly during the growing season for low income families. Any extra produce will also be used by their chef to prepare snack and lunch for the children on site. We are excited to be a support to St. Johns children and their families.

Thank you, Victory Seed Company!!!!

Mike, the owner of Victory Seed Company in Molalla, Oregon contacted me this week to see if we needed another donation of seeds this year. He has been a lifesaver for the garden by providing $375 worth of organic, heirloom seeds to us last year. As many of you know, we had an incredible array of seeds, many I’ve never seen or heard of, that produced gorgeous vegetables. We are so grateful!!! Please “like” Victory Seed Company on Facebook and visit their website to purchase seeds for your garden, or give as gifts. http://www.victoryseeds.com/contactus.html
